years Mary and Nick Pascale have been expressing their Italian pride
through food. Their shop is a little slice of Italy that offers
buffalo mozzarella, rosemary ham, specialty oils and vinegars and a
ton of cheeses. At this time of year, they also sell panettone,
pandoro and torrone. Other goodies to add to the grocery basket:
sun-dried tomatoes, the spectacular Testun al Barolo (a cheese aged in
grape skins) and pasta with squid ink. Or pick up one of their famous
sandwiches – Mary says that they are so good, one customer ordered

Canada divas like Bonnie Stern and Christine Cushing set out to buy
exotic foods, they go to Ararat. Opened in 1969 by husband-and-wife
team Peter and Aurora Kashkarian, Ararat sources recipes (for their
prepared dishes), spices and specialty ingredients from over 50
countries. Their emphasis is on Mediterranean and Middle Eastern
treats. Stop in for a selection of meaty olives, Armenian cured meats
and homemade hummus, tahini and baba ghanouj. For dessert, have some
